What foods are in season in June?
What to Eat this June that is in Season?
This June there a lot of greens that are in season. Some of my favorites are on this list. Eating what is in season is more sustainable for the environment. It allows the ground environment to cycle the way it would without human intervention. Different regions have different produce in season, if you do a quick google search it will tell you what is in season in your region.
Eating what is in season gives you the ability to visit local farmers markets supporting local farmers, and the ability to choose your produce. Really giving you farm to table experience. If you visit the local farmers market you can essentially build a great relationship with the farmers you support all the time.
A huge benefit of eating what is in season is that the food is super tasty because it was allowed to ripen longer on the trees or in the ground. The energy that it takes to grow strawberries in the winter is extraordinary, it is not stainable or great for the environment and the chemicals used to keep them fresh for transport is not that great for us or the environment.
You can always buy what is in season and preserve in-season fruits and vegetables for later use in the year when they are not typically in season. You can freeze, dehydrate, pickle, can, or make tasty jams locking in flavors.
