Other than spinning my salad

With not much space in my home, most things I buy must serve more than one role, so when I got this salad spinner from OXO Good Grips it had to live up to its hype which it did but it also needed to do other things like wash my fruit.

I have destroyed a many salad spinners putting them in the dishwasher, because in this day and age companies need to make stuff I can put in the dishwasher. So one of the best things about this salad spinners is it is top rack safe, big win for me.

It has a simple design, but functions as it should. I love when things are designed well and function as it should and this salad spinner is doing both well. The salad spinner hugs the table top like a 3 series hugs the highway, so no slips when you are going crazy spinning your salad.

I have been using my OXO Good Grips Salad Spinner to wash my strawberries 🍓. I soak my strawberries and triple wash them because strawberries belong to the dirty dozen. “Strawberries are often at the top of the "Dirty Dozen" list, which includes fruits and vegetables that contain the highest levels of pesticides.”

For me, I place the strawberries is the spinner and cover the strawberries in cold water, I add a table spoon of baking soda and a cap full of vinegar and let it sit for 3 minutes, I remove the basket with the strawberries and throw out that first set of water. It looks yucky but it’s part of the process. I refill the bowl and strawberries with water and add a little fruit and vegetable wash. And spin for 30 seconds and then rise the strawberries two more time till the water is clear. I empty all the water then I place the lid back on and spin the strawberries dry.

You can leave them in the strainer to air dry but I put in out on the count to dry on a paper towel. I do this extra step to remove all the moisture before I store in a large Mason jar in the refrigerator for longer shelf life and easy access.

Lately the produce hasn’t been lasting as long, I probably need a new refrigerator, but in the mean time, this is how I’m managing.
