Every Brilliant Thing

Great Show

Every Brilliant Thing is an adaptation of  the hit off-Broadway one-character show of the same name written by Duncan Macmillan and starring British comedian Jonny Donahoe, the film replays the life a boy growing into a man living in the shadow of his mother's attempted suicide attempts and her third final fatal attempt.

The main stay in the entire movie is the list of brilliant things, that he created when he was seven after his mom's first suicide attempt. A one man show, with an interactive audience, His range and depth of emotion, took me down this melancholy road and up the great hills of magnificent highs. The film starts with the actor handing out handwritten pieces of paper with a number and a word or a sentence, and he says to the audience member "when I say this number, read out loud whats on the paper". Like he called out a number and the audience member said "Yellow", yes yellow brings a smile to my face, because something about yellow definitely makes everyone smile.

Suicide is real and it very sad, but we never see how it affects those who lost the mother, the father, the sibling, the spouse or the child. It is devastating for these people and the questions they will always have. During difficult situations, we all have been there, where we think that ending life will be easier, however it is not the answer, there is always a better solution.

There are organizations to reach out to when you think SUICIDE is an option. There was a moving performance by LOGIC during the grammy's and he highlighted how serious suicide is. Here is his video

So it got me thinking, I should make a list of every brilliant thing in my life now.

  1. My son's smile.
  2. A warm day with lots of sunshine.
  3. Cara Cara orange.
  4. When my hubby fixes my blankets while he thinks I'm sleeping.
  5. Enough milk to have a bowl of cereal.
  6. A warm house, when coming in from the cold.
  7. Clean white 100% cotton sheets.
  8. The perfect red lipstick.
  9. A fresh manicure.
  10. Pulling your jeans up and they fit without a fight...
