The Interior Design vision for 2020

Trends for this year

Interior design is the art and the science used to develop the interior of a building. That interior can be a space without defining walls or a room with walls where the use of different materials, colors and furnishings help to attain a strong and aesthetically pleasing environment for happy and productive human living within the space. The main objective for me as a designer is to marry both form and function seamlessly to attain a space that is useable and pleasing.

There are a few visions that might become popular this year. Some of them I may use and some I may not. My home will always reflect my personality and my love for black and white. I love the duality and the representation of the feminine and masculine, the light and the dark and the opposites of black and white that somehow form equilibrium.

Black and White

So, with great pleasure I’m happy to say you may see more black and white in interior design. A return of the black wall. Black and white Art Deco and graphic inspired patterns. Moldings and trims and even black kitchen cabinet and a white quartz counter top two toned.

Bold Colors, Saturated Hues and Jewel Tone

Bold Colors, saturated hues and jewel tones are sure to be on this year. Deeper pinks and corals and let’s not forget Pantones classic blue. Picking a bold color to go with black and white always brings a smile to my face.

Mixing and Layering of Patterns

Mixing and layering of patterns for table tops and textiles. A resurgence of geometric patterns.

Colored Ceilings

Painted ceilings or wallpapered ceilings.

Ageless and timeless Interior Design

When I say ageless and timeless interior design, I mean using interior design to tell a story about your home about you personally. Branding your home to reflect your individuality. Picking pieces of furniture that will last longer than just 3 years, but for 10 to 20 years. The use of signature pieces, unique pieces that fit with your lifestyle. These pieces may be high-end but they will last longer, their sustainability will pay off in the end.

Sustainability

Sustainability will be a driving force not just for 2020 but forever I think. Using natural, sustainable materials like bamboo, rattan and marble. Or recycled materials or upcycled materials. The use of green materials, and having more items made more efficiently by not using products that would further harm the environment.

Green

Adding plants to an interior space, not just for aesthetic reasons, but for the benefits the plants provide.

Even though these are just visions of what might be, these are just suggestions. When it comes to designing your home, you should design it the way you like it, after all it is your home.
